Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica and other Caribbean countries on Tuesday (28). The host, who was in the Caribbean nation, gave a tour of the house where he was staying to show the damage caused by the storm.
The devastating storm hit the region hard. Ray’s house had its doors smashed and was flooded with water. Debris from windows and other objects was also scattered around.
“The entire porch and all the sliding doors were ripped off,” Ray said. While he filmed the tour, the sound of wind shaking the remaining curtains could be heard. “It’s been incredible, the fury,” the host added.
Ray showed the team working with him: another meteorologist, a cameraman, and two local security guards.
“We’ve been through a lot with them today; I can’t thank you enough,” Ray told the two men. “And we’re going to go through much more in the coming days,” he lamented.
One of the security guards was from Montego Bay, an area heavily affected by the storms. The host asked him how his family was doing.
“They’re fine, but I’m worried about the damage to property, belongings, and things like that,” he replied. “We need to get there tomorrow to see what’s going on.”
While showing the house, Ray was almost hit by a curtain. “My God, this is unbelievable.” He showed more parts of the house: broken and damaged furniture.
The host said he was waiting for the winds to calm down before visiting Montego Bay, where 25,000 tourists are stranded in hotels.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared the island a “disaster zone,” according to an official statement shared on Facebook, warning CNN that the storm could cause “irreversible” damage to the region.
